Babilly Bruce was elected Councillor for the Young Ward of the City of Adelaide 1976 – 80. She served on the Planning Approvals Committee, Legislation, Properties and General Committee, and the Health, Welfare, Recreation and Parks Committee.

Bruce later relocated to Robe with her husband, Ian, a former Olympian who was selected for the athletics team representing Australia at the 1956 Olympics and competed in the Decathlon.

In Robe, she continued to serve her community, volunteering with Meals on Wheels. The Bruces were dedicated to the preservation of history and heritage buildings, actively supporting the Robe National Trust of South Australia.

Patrons of the arts, the Bruces were long-term Friends of the Southern Ocean Art Prize, and donors to the National Gallery of Australia. Bruce passed away on 7 January 2019.
