Fun in the sun

Long sunny days, starry evenings and an atmosphere buzzing with colour, creativity and culture. The start of the year is a brilliant time to be in Adelaide. Check out these tips on ways to extend your summer event season experience in the city.

Roam the Riverbank

The River Torrens / Karrawirra Pari is the scene for a bunch of summer event activities this year. Winding its way through the city’s heart, it’s long been a meeting place: traditionally of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains and still for locals and visitors looking to take in Adelaide’s natural beauty.

You can stroll anytime along the river’s glorious banks but experience it with a little extra magic at these events:

11 January: smooth tunes at the So Frenchy So Chic pop garden party (Pinky Flat) – it’s part of the Adelaide French Festival.

15 February – 17 March: Yabarra: Gathering of Light a sensory trail of projections, sound and light installations on every night of the Adelaide Fringe (adjacent to the University of Adelaide at the University footbridge)

1 – 17 March: live music, forums, food and talks at The Palais during the Adelaide Festival (Elder Park)

The Riverbank can also be enjoyed after a day spent at Adelaide Writers’ Week (Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden, King William Rd), WOMADelaide (Botanic Park) or on your way to or from a show at the new RCC Fringe venue at the University of Adelaide.
